End of support for some Windows products
G Data expects increase in attacks on older operating systems
Today’s patch is the last one for the operating systems Windows XP Service Pack 2 and Windows 2000. Microsoft will also stop providing support for these older systems. As there are still hundreds of thousands of companies and consumers that use these systems, G Data expects to see an increase in attacks on these operating systems.
"With no more patches for new discovered flaws, these attacks are bound to be extremely dangerous for users. I therefore advise these users to upgrade their systems, as Microsoft suggests. At the very least, they can download and install Windows XP Service Pack 3 . This is free of charge and with this Service Pack, users can still expect support and security patches from Microsoft until April 2014.” says Eddy Willems, Security Evangelist at G Data.
What users of Microsoft XP SP2 and Windows 2000 can do:
· Download and install XP SP3 or
· Upgrade your operating system to Windows Vista / Windows 7
· In any case, keep all installed software up-to-date
· Make sure your PC is protected by recent and comprehensive security software
